  1. Implement a plan – Putting together a social media audit is an effective way of getting the most out of your social media strategy. Start with your current following and breakdown your posts, understand the audience you want to reach, set goals, and create a timeline to reach them. Be sure the goals you’re setting are realistic and can be met over the course of 6 to 12 months. 
  2. Research the competition – How are your competitors using their social media? Learning from what other similar brands are doing can be a great way to determine your approach and the angle needed to go in the desired direction. It also is important observe competitors for what you do NOT want to do on your social media, too. Learn what’s working and what’s not.
  3. Decide on your platforms – Every business is different so not all are going to use the same platforms for reaching audiences. Decide which platforms are most effective for your audiences. Remember, you don’t have to use the same platform for each audience. 
  4. Track Analytics – Using a platform such as Google Analytics, Hootsuite or Brandwatch are great tools for keeping your brand on track. Being able to have all your social media reports in one place not only keeps it organized but also makes determining what is working and what’s not a whole lot easier. Tracking analytics also allows you to see how you’re doing overall. 
  5. Know when to post – Consistency is key! Decide what days of the week you are going to post content to your social. BUT, don’t forget every platform is different. 
    • Twitter: it’s easy to lose track of who’s posting what with hundreds of people posting every second. It is most effective to post a few times a day to keep your content relevant and visible. 
    • Instagram: Posting 2-3 times a week is essential in keeping engagement up. Find a scheduling routine that works for you! Don’t forget about stories and live videos, too. Both are great ways of staying relevant to Instagram without posting several times throughout the day. 
    • Facebook: Posting once a day or once every other day has been proven effective for Facebook. Sharing content is another great way to determine what your consumers are interested in. 
  6. Connecting with your followers – Building relationships is the key to social media engagement. When consumers engage with you on social media, it is important to communicate back and forth for building relationships over time. Jumping right into hardcore messaging can cause the consumer to think you’re too pushy or more worried about making sales versus building an everlasting relationship based on trust and loyalty. 
  7. Don’t overdo promotion – Your consumers want to hear from you. They want to engage with you and learn about your brand. Promotion is extremely important for generating sales but you want to do it in a way that doesn’t come off as insincere, or being the only thing your brand cares about generating. 
  8. Giveaways – Who doesn’t love free products? Implementing a giveaway tactic is a great way of building your audience and get consumers interested in your brand. A giveaway can be a huge boost to your overall brand. If you don’t have a large following yet, partner with other businesses for the giveaway. It will double your reach and benefit partnering companies.
  9. Boost search visibility – Creating engaging content is the goal, right? That means that you want consumers finding your brand easily. Focusing your business on the strategy of engagement, using relevant and consistent hashtags, and updating your content regularly make this possible. Your brand is worth being seen! 
  10. Graphics – Having trouble creating compelling content? That’s okay! There are plenty of easy tools, such as Canva and photoshop that make this easy for your business to learn and still create amazing content. Here are some of our favorite tools.
  11. Schedule your content – Scheduling your content days or weeks ahead can save you time for focusing on other things and making sure your content is still remaining frequent. Once you develop your timeline and decide which platforms will best serve your consumers, using a scheduling platform can be very helpful.
